Interview: Caroline Frazer, make-up artist

What's your top beauty tip?

Before applying make-up to models and celebrities, I always give them a short lymphatic-drainage massage to help their skin's texture and radiance.

What are your best and worst features?

Best would be my hair as it's my crowning glory. I'm not saying what my worst is. Who needs to hear about my elbows…

What's in your bathroom cabinet?

Everything. I go through a lot of products, and most of them end up filling up my cupboards at home.

Do you have a beauty secret?

Keep your eye cream in the fridge as that way it will help cool tired eyes and get rid of bags. I like to keep my face wipes in the fridge when I'm on holiday too.

Biggest beauty disaster?

I have a lot of kit so I decant everything into smaller bottles. I once didn't label my nail polish remover and in a rush assumed it was an eye make-up remover when working with a celebrity. Just before I put it on her skin, I realised what I'd done – luckily she didn't notice.

Would you consider cosmetic surgery?

Yes, if I felt it would really help.

How long do you take to get ready in the morning?

From bed to out of the door, one hour.

Would you leave chipped nail varnish on or remove it right away? Polished and well-manicured nails are tidier. I like a clear, natural-looking varnish.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

At the moment, my Spanx.

Quick wipes or a three-step regime?

Wipes are a staple in my make-up kit, and I always keep them by my bedside for evenings when I'm too tired for my regular routine. However, it's important to cleanse, tone and moisturise at least once a day to protect your skin's health and appearance.

Real or bottled tan

? Bottled, but I prefer a fresh and healthy-looking complexion that is down to a good skincare routine and balanced diet. I think most women now know the dangers of too much sun.

Are you brand-loyal?

Yes, I've been using Simple for 20 years now.

In the credit crunch, what one treatment would you give up?

Facials, as I can do these at home and get good results.
