Tax officer.

What has been your most unusual job? Packing mobile phones on a moving production line.

My biggest achievement so far has been... Reaching three score years and ten.

My worst moment ever was… Having to leave the ward when my wife was in labour because I was about to pass out.

Three words that sum up my personality are... Grumpy, grumpy and grumpy.

Three places in Edinburgh I could not live without are... Newhaven Harbour (I used to help my grandfather light the lighthouse lamp); The National Museum of Scotland and the Botanic Garden.

Who is your best friend? My wife Frances.

Which TV show do you never miss? NCIS.

If you could bring one show to Edinburgh what would it be? Sondheim’s Putting It Together.

Name one item you not live without? My caravan.
