Iglu's a cool spot for everything from a coffee to a gourmet meal

IF you are looking for an intimate dining spot where you can be assured of great food and a relaxed atmosphere, take a walk along Jamaica Street and open the door to Iglu.

Something of a hidden gem, the restaurant opened in late 2005 and has since earned itself a strong reputation for quality and atmosphere, as well as becoming well-known in the dining trade for the ethical sourcing of ingredients - something that earned it praise in the RSPCA Good Business Awards 2007.

The restaurant is the brainchild of founder and director Charlie Cornelius, who is committed to finding the best ingredients possible for all Iglu dishes by working with small, local producers to source high quality meat, fish and seasonal vegetables.

For the diner this is good news, with dishes such as wild boar burger with game jus (9.50), pan roast fillet of hake (14) and Gressingham duck breast (17) on the menu.

Iglu also boasts a relaxed bar which is ever popular for after-work drinks. Customers can make the most of the large selection of wines, spirits and draught and bottled beers, including the Black Isle Organic Blonde lager.

Patrons can also take advantage of the venue's organic and fairtrade juices, artisan coffee and organic teas, making Iglu the perfect place for a daytime catch-up with friends, as well as a night out after work or at weekends.

At the moment, the restaurant is offering a two-course lunch menu for 10, which is also available between 6pm and 7pm.

Iglu is closed on a Monday and Tuesday, but open every other day, including Sundays from 12pm until late.
