Hidden gems: Tattie Shaws

ALL too often when it comes to food, quality is sacrificed for convenience. People load their fruit bowls with whatever is at hand in their local supermarket, without great regard for taste.

Step forward, Tattie Shaws – it's a dedicated greengrocers standing firm in an era when many have died out.

Tucked away on Leith Walk's Elm Row since it was opened by David Shaw back in 1997, the business could be overlooked by some shoppers despite the centrality of its location, but for the regulars who frequently pass through its doors, they find experienced and knowledgeable staff, as well as very reasonably priced fruit and vegetables of the highest quality – many times fresher and sweeter than the often bland, mass produced supermarket alternative.
