The Edinburgh-based author yesterday sent fans into a meltdown after hinting that the Potter series may be revived.

She took to social media to wish James Sirius Potter, Harry’s son, “good luck” on his first day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

And now, she has added to the Twitter frenzy by revealing more details about the young boy.

She wrote: “Have just heard that James S Potter has been Sorted (to nobody’s surprise) into Gryffindor. Teddy Lupin (Head Boy, Hufflepuff) disappointed.”

The news that James had been sorted into the same house as his father, Harry, garnered mixed reactions from fans.

Annabella Eyre said: “Oh my god I love this.”

Wouter Boon added: “I am so happy to read this. I have the biggest grin now. Must be a Grin Spell hidden in your tweet.”

One Twitter user named ‘Wesley’ added: “Congratulations to James Potter for being sorted into Gryffindor.”

But other fans were upset that young James had not been placed in a rival house - Slytherin.

One fan said: “I honestly thought James would be in Slytherin.”

Rowling also revealed in her tweet that Teddy Lupin, the son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, is a Hufflepuff and also head boy.

Sorcha O’Dowd was one delighted fan. She wrote: “My dreams have all come true. Teddy Lupin in Hufflepuff! Thank you.”

Another follower said: “Teddy is a Hufflepuff and my Hufflepuff heart is so happy.”

There was also some online speculation as to which houses Harry’s other children, Albus Severus and Lily Luna, may be sorted into when they start at Hogwarts.

All students who start at the magical school are ‘sorted’ into a house by a talking hat.

In the first Potter novel, Harry and his friends Hermione and Ron are all sorted into Gryffindor, much to their delight.

Harry’s main rival, Draco Malfoy, and his friends are sorted into Slytherin - the same house that Tom Marvolo Riddle, who goes on to become Lord Voldemort, was sorted into.
