Glasgow School of Art degree show must go on

Digital reproductions of images created by Fine Art students which were lost in the blaze form a specially curated exhibition in the school’s McLellan Galleries.

The GSA’s iconic Mackintosh building was badly damaged on 23 May when a fire, that started in the basement, ripped through the historic structure,

Some 200 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze, and managed to salvage 90 per cent of the structure of the A-listed building and save up to 70 per cent of its contents.

Professor Tom Inns, GSA director said: “The degree show is the high point of the year for any art school, but this year it has taken on a whole new complexion for the GSA.”

He said that the show of digital prints had ensured that the affected artists were “fully represented in the degree show as part of the campus-wide exhibition.”

The show features the work of more than 500 graduating students from across the school.
