Giving cheeks a pinch will make you blush

This season our cheeks are set to steal the beauty limelight in a long overdue "less is more" way. Blusher, you see, is back.

2011 is set to welcome healthy flushed cheeks, clever contouring and subtly sculpted features.

To get the look, try Bobbi Brown's Sheer Colour Cheek Tints (17); gel-based colours which come in a swivel-up stick. Gliding on effortlessly - so no tell-tale streaks - the result is a natural and radiant look. Try lilac for the perfect pretty light pink tint.

But don't forget about the award-winning Pot Rouge (17) by Bobbi Brown as well. This cream-based formula is ideal for normal to combination skins and leaves cheeks with a sheer, stained finish. Blushed Rose is arguably one of the most versatile colours of the collection.

Clinique's Quick Blush (22) range is also a great buy; a blusher and brush in one handy and slick tube. Simply twist and the brush emerges with the right amount of blush pre-loaded on it.

Try Peach-in-a-Pinch or Hurry Honey which work on both pale and olive skin tones. For a more iridescent finish, opt for Clinique's Allover Bloom in Almond Blossom, perfect for olive tones.

Budget buys don't come much better than Bourjois Blush in Rose Amber (7.49). Giving cheeks a subtle shimmer and long lasting colour, it rivals its designer competitors. Also Try Topshop's Blush (8).

But the product is worthless if you don't know how to apply it. International make-up artist Bobbi Brown explains: "Smiling is the best way to find the apples of your cheeks, which is where we all naturally blush.

"Swirl a wide, rounded and fluffy brush in powder blush, then tap to remove the excess.

"Apply blush to the apple of the cheek then blend up and back toward the hairline.

"To make the colour look like it belongs on the skin, blend it down, away from the cheekbone, as well."

So there you have it. And with Edinburgh's shops packed with all the right beauty products, there is no excuse for not embracing the trend.
