Funds plea from video games sector

The UK games industry’s trade association has called on the Scottish Government to establish a fund to boost the video games sector.

Games industry association Tiga is proposing the introduction of a creative content fund (CCF) to encourage studio production and stimulate the generation of intellectual property.

The CCF could provide funding of up to £100,000 to game developers, and would operate on a commercial basis.

Tiga said Scotland was losing out after the UK government failed to introduce games tax relief, with investment and jobs going overseas.

Tiga chief executive Dr Richard Wilson said: “The Scottish Government now has the chance to show decisive leadership in support of the video games industry.

“Tiga’s proposed CCF would give a really powerful signal to the UK and global games industry that Scotland is open for business.”
