Cabaret acts

From vintage songster Lili La Scala, in Songs to Make you Smile, to Australian jazz pianist Ali McGregor in Something Old, Something New, both at Assembly George Square, cabaret has its own section in the Fringe brochure for the first time. Sample shows include The Return of the Pink Sinatras performing classics with a live band and feminist burlesque in Lashings of Ginger Beer Time.

Held in the new Summerhall venue and billed as a replacement for the free-ranging Forest Fringe, which lost its venue this year. In this show the audience decides how much they want to pay.

Gerda Stevenson in the husband-and-wife play about a Scottish couple wrestling with life's tragedies and an obsession with tennis.

The Edge

The National, at the Corn Exchange, with British band Morcheeba and Newton Faulkner at the Liquid Rooms are part of the August music festival. For the first time music acts are being billed as part of the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in a bid to generate audiences for both music and comedy. Example, Wiz Khalifa, Gomez and The Vaccines, are also in the line-up.

John Peel's Shed

John Osborne tells of his relationship with a box of records won in 2002 on the John Peel Show.

The Incredible Book Eating Boy

This children's show by Bootworks Theatre at the Pleasance is a five-minute adaption of the award-winning book with puppetry and project for an audience of two people seated in a pod.
