Friends mop up in tear-jerker poll

THE final moment of the long-running comedy hit Friends has been named as television's biggest tearjerker.

The highly charged scene as the pals in the US sitcom handed back apartment keys and viewers said goodbye to Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica, Rachel and Phoebe was ranked the most emotional moment in TV entertainment.

However, the BBC1 soap East-Enders claimed the biggest share of places in the top ten with four sob-laden entries in the poll for Freeview HD.

Albert Square's quartet of weepies were all deaths, following the moments when Ethel, Jamie Mitchell, Tiffany and Bradley bowed out of the show.

When Blackadder Goes Forth swapped belly laughs for blubbing was runner-up in the survey. At the end of the First World War-based series, Rowan Atkinson and his fellow soldiers climb out of the trenches and charge over the top to their deaths.

Third place went to Bradley's rooftop plunge in last month's live 25th anniversary episode of EastEnders. Ethel's death was fourth while the death of Nana, played by veteran actress Liz Smith, in The Royle Family, was fifth.
