Flybe announces Dundee-Amsterdam flight service

Dundee Airport has secured its first international route, with flights to Amsterdam starting in May.

Flybe announced details of a new year-round service between Dundee and Schiphol Airport that will operate six times a week.

It is the third route the airline has announced under the UK Government’s regional air connectivity fund.

Inglis Lyon, managing director of Dundee Airport operator HIAL, said: “This is a significant milestone for the airport and the city.

“It gives Dundee its first international route as well as access to one of Europe’s biggest and best-connected hub airports.

“With the support of the people of Dundee and Tayside, I believe this route could be transformational for the city and its airport.”

The service will begin on May 23, with one-way fares available from £19.99 for a limited time.

Holyrood transport minister Derek Mackay said: “This is really exciting news for Dundee and I congratulate everyone involved with bringing this new high-profile service to the city.

“The link to Amsterdam will bring huge benefits to Scottish businesses by improving access to global markets.

“It will also give inbound travellers even more options when it comes to getting a taste of the fantastic tourist experience on offer in Scotland.”

UK aviation minister Robert Goodwill said: “Our smaller airports are vital engines for local economies, connecting the UK and overseas destinations, and opening up opportunities.

“That is why the UK Government is backing new regional air routes with £7 million of funding to drive investment and boost growth across the country.”

“With world-renowned golf courses such as Carnoustie and St Andrews just a stone’s throw away, and Dundee’s innovative new waterfront development, including the V&A Museum of Design Dundee, there is plenty for visitors to discover in the city and beyond.”
