Five Things to do in Edinburgh Today: Tuesday May 15

The pick of the city’s nights out.

• MUSIC: The Stagger Rats. Edinburgh five-piece The Stagger Rats found themselves in Budapest last year, having gone to the Hungarian capital to lay down tracks for their debut offering, Scorpio Leisure, which will be released later this year.

“The reason we made the album in Budapest is because we’re signed to a label over there,” explains Callum Easter, who sings and plays organ in The Stagger Rats.

“Our first single, See Through Spiders, was used as the title track in the film PIMP, starring Danny Dyer, Billy Boyd and Robert Cavanagh.

“The financial backers of the film, WP Ents, got to know us because of that. They felt we had a lot of talent and invited us to play gigs in Budapest. Then they sent us back over to make the album.”

Easter’s bandmates are Daniel Paylor (guitar, vocals), Kai Wallace (drums, vocals), Craig McMullen (guitar) and Shetlander Jack Sandison (bass). The Stagger Rats Open Mic Night, Assembly, Lothian Street, 7pm, free, 0131-220 4288, www.assemblybar.co.uk
