A teaser trailer for the soundtrack for Filth, the film based on Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name, has been released.

The 13-track soundtrack will feature a medley of classic 60s and 70s soul and R&B from The Shirelles, Billy Ocean and Clarence Carter.

The release features newer material too: Mercy, a breakout hit for Duffy in 2009, is given a northern soul makeover by The Third Degree that sounds even more rooted in the 60s than the original.

Another cover version of a contemporary classic, Radiohead’s Creep, is handled by the film’s Oscar-nominated composer Clint Mansell and vocalist Coco Sumner.

Welsh crooner Tom Jones and David Soul - better known to some as one-half of Starsky and Hutch - contribute to the release with Dr Love and Silver Lady, respectively.

A Wilson Pickett cover of Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild, perhaps the only song that signposts the persona of Bruce Robertson, the film’s lead character and anti-hero (that said, you could make the same case for Creep), will also appears on the release.

Mansell, who was twice nominated for an Academy Award for his work on A Requiem For A Dream and Black Swan (incidentally both directed by Darren Aronofsky) will take charge of the film’s original music.

The full tracklist of the soundtrack, scheduled for release on 23 September, is below.
