'˜Zombie apocaylpse' in Glasgow for low budget horror film

But the zombies that overran Washington Street, thankfully, weren’t real – the blood-soaked streets were just part of a set for a new low budget film, Zombie Apocalypse.

As as the undead advanced, extras portraying members of the public were seen scurrying across the street in an effort to deal with the outbreak.

Amid flaming cars and dead bodies, soldiers advanced towards the zombies firing blank weapons.

Traffic restrictions on Washington Street, Balaclava Street and McAlpine Street were put in place yesterday, but have now been lifted.

A council spokesman told teh Daily Record: “To help promote the film and broadcast industry in Glasgow – which has contributed well over £250million to the city’s economy since it was formed in the late 1990s – our Glasgow film office works with productions to ensure filming goes as smoothly as possible while minimising any impact on residents and businesses.

“A number of major movies filmed in Glasgow in recent years have not only boosted Glasgow’s economy, but showcased the city around the world.”

It’s not the first time the undead have made an appearance in Glasgow, of course – Brad Pitt brought a crew to Glasgow’s George Square to film another zombie horror, World War Z, in 2011.
