Trailer of the week: Prometheus

After the brief, fast-cutting teaser, not one but two new trailers were unveiled at the weekend for Ridley Scott’s not-really-but-sort-of prequel to his sci-fi classic, Alien.

And?

It looks epic, frankly. We now know that the story begins on Earth – a first for an Alien film, unless you count Alien VS Predator, which we don’t – with an excitable Noomi Rapace discovering that ancient human civilisations separated by continents and hundreds of years all created drawings featuring the same pattern of dots. This turns out to be a celestial map, an invitation to Earthlings to visit the home planet of the creatures who gave humanity a technological head start.

Fascinating. But what about all that goo and screaming from the first trailer?

Still present and correct. The visit doesn’t turn out so well, and something deadly ends up heading for Earth.

Aliens with acid for blood, I take it?

Maybe. It’s still very hard to tell what’s going on. What is that strange disc-like shape above the waterfall, for example? Find out on 1 June.
