What is the new season about?

Series 10 of Shetland will follow Calder and Tosh as they are drawn to a remote village following the murder of an elderly woman.

The isolated and close-knit community of Lunniswick - played by the real life village of Levenwick - is rocked by the murder of retired social worker Eadie Tulloch, whose body has been left to the elements for several days. Having not spoken with her son in several years, details of her lonely life begin to emerge.

Speaking about the setting of the new series, O’Donnell said: “The fictional village of Lunniswick is typical of Shetland, scattered houses lining a beach, the neighbours well acquainted with one another and the land they live on.

“It is rich in history, relationships and secrets which I really loved as a central focus of the mystery. There was so much to play with, so much to unpack.”

With Calder and Tosh beginning to suspect the residents of the village are holding back about their relationships with Eadie, they begin to unravel a complicated web of lies which will have unexpected, and personal, consequences.

During the last series of Shetland, Jensen made sure to avoid learning who the killer was before her character did, stating that she enjoyed going on the journey along with the audience.

After spending the lead up to the new series watching crime TV shows, she said: “I was better at working out who the killer was this time around – clearly all my cold crime docudrama research has paid off!”

Shetland Series 10 cast

Jensen and O’Donnell are returning to Shetland for the new series, which will see Calder and Tosh navigating not only a new murder, but a shift in their dynamic.

Following the last season the pair have a solid working relationship and developing friendship, something which is challenged when Tosh’s relationship with Billy, played by series regular Lewis Howden, ends up under the microscope.
