Outlander has been renewed for season seven at Starz ahead of the long delayed release of its sixth season sometime later this year.

The Amazon Prime Video’s long-running time-travelling historical fantasy drama premiered in 2014 and quickly became a huge hit.

The news comes as filming of season six restarted earlier this year after being delayed due to Covid – a period fans dubbed Droughtlander.

A new testing centre has been built in the car park of Wardpark Film Studios in Cumbernauld where all the previous seasons of Outlander have been produced.

For season six, the cast of the drama have been able to return to the same studios to film since December last year.

The production hub is currently the only elite film and television studio in Scotland, with its 200,000 square feet of studio space making it perfect for Outlander filming.

The series follows the adventures of World War II nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) who inadvertantly travels back in time to the Scottish highlands where she meets the love of her life, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
