No Time To Die trailer: everything we learned about the new James Bond film

The two-minute clip gives espionage fans a much better glimpse of No Time To Die than the teaser that preceded it (a trailer for a trailer, if you will), and hints at returning characters, death-defying stunts, and all the action you could want from Bond 25.

In the film, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica when his old friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) from the CIA turns up asking for help.

A mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading the spy onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Filming has been taking place in Jamaica and at Pinewood Studios in the UK, as well as in London.

Here's everything we learned from the new trailer.

Daniel Craig's ankle has healed nicely

The cast of No Time To Die was announced during a live event in Jamaica in April, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch and Ana De Armas joining the line-up.

Bond stalwarts Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson are producing, while Neal Purvis and Robert Wade - who have written all of Craig's Bond films to date - are listed as writers again.

The movie, which is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, has been beset by issues in recent months, with a "controlled explosion" damaging the outside of the famous 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, leaving a crew member injured.

No-one working inside the studio was hurt, but one crew member outside suffered a "minor injury".

In May, Craig was injured while filming in Jamaica, forcing the actor, 51, to undergo "minor ankle surgery".

However, the cast appeared in good spirits when they were visited on set by the Prince of Wales in June.

The new 007 hasn't got time for Bond

The new trailer gives us our first good look at the new 007, played by British actress Lashana Lynch.

Note that the 31-year-old isn't the next James Bond, but has rather taken on his codename after two years of James' retirement.

According to the Mail on Sunday, a "movie insider" said the opening scene of the new film shows Lynch being referred to as the spy's codename - as Bond himself has left the Secret Intelligent Service to retire in Jamaica.

The source said: “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman. It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”

In the trailer, we see Bond meeting the new 007, and it seems there will be some tension between them.

"If you get in my way", says the new 007, sternly, "I won't hesitate to put a bullet in your knee.

"Well, the one that works."

Rami Malek's villain has a mask

One of the biggest sources of excitement ahead of No Time To Die has been the casting of Rami Malek as the film's big bad, Safin.

The trailer gives us our first look at the Oscar winner's character, and thankfully he's not playing the baddie with the sort of complicated high-camp many had feared he might.

But it is nice to see Safin sporting an intimidating half-mask, which not only looks great, but has us thinking back to a time when Bond was slightly less serious and po faced than it is now.

Bond is going full cinematic universe

To this point, Bond movies have been fairly standalone experiences - films that you could watch out of order and still enjoy it as much as if you'd watched them in they order they were released in cinemas.

But with so many characters returning (Léa Seydoux's Dr. Madeleine Swann gets a return in the trailer that's sure to have Bond fans gasping, and Blofeld's back again, albeit in captivity), it looks as if producers could be following the template of Marvel and other 'cinematic universes' by having everything interwoven in one continuous timeline.

If a new Bond is revealed at the end of No Time To Die (though in the best case scenario, Lynch gets to stay on as the series' focus), it's likely we'll get an in-canon continuation of the character, rather than a reboot.

Aston Martin sales will be on the up

Luxury car-maker Aston Martin is hoping the upcoming Bond film will help boost sales as it features four of its models: the classic DB5 and V8 Saloon, as well as the new DBS Superleggera and Valhalla.

If the scene in which Bond pulls a doughnut while firing off headlamp mounted miniguns and taking down a pack of goons is anything to go by, they'll be fulfilling new orders for months.

Though that's surely an expensive optional extra?

When can I watch it?

The official release had been delayed from its original slated date of February 2020, and was announced as 3 April 2020.

But the new trailer confirms that the film will in fact release a day earlier, on 2 April.
