But the Port Sunshine - which is thought to be based on former dockers’ bars found in and around the capital’s Great Junction Street - has been brought to life by movie producers in another famous port town.

Director Danny Boyle and the team behind the eagerly-anticipated Trainspotting 2 have taken over a hotel in Clydebank, where filming is expected to commence over the next few days.

The Port Sunshine is one of the key settings in Porno, Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel which was written as a sequel to Trainspotting.

In the book, Sick Boy returns to Leith from London after being offered the pub tenancy by his aunt.

He views the run-down bar as a business opportunity given its proximity to the Victoria Quay office complex used by civil servants, but quickly reverts to his bad habits.

The script of Trainspotting 2 is said to be “loosely” based on Porno, according to screenwriter John Hodge, who adapted Welsh’s first novel into the 1996 smash hit.
