Jack and Victor get title sequence makeover for Still Game's return

SCOTTISH comedy favourite Still Game has been given a classical makeover for its return to the nation's TV screens for the first time in nine years.

Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan took Jack and Victor back in time to record a new title sequence for Still Game.

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra has recorded a brand new version of the theme music to the cult sitcom to herald its long-awaited comeback.

The BBC has revealed it has also filmed a brand new version of the show's much-loved title sequence, which famously charts the changing images of Jack and Victor over the decades.

It said it has decided to modernise the title sequence to "make the titles sparkle" on high-definition television screens which many fans will be watching the new series on when it returns on 7 October.

The BBC SSO recorded a new version of Still Game's theme music for its TV comeback.

The orchestra recorded a new version of the track Cuban Boy, which was originally recorded by the English "easy listening" star Frank Chackfield, at the City Halls in Glasgow last week, conducted by BAFTA-winning composer Ben Foster.

The new titles remain faithful to the original style seeing Jack and Victor through the ages from schoolboys, to teens and adults in the 60s, 70s, 80s to the present day.

Producer Jacqueline Sinclair said: "Jack and Victor may not have aged and the original titles have been fabulous for 14 years but as the whole series is getting a polish, we really needed to make the titles sparkle for HD widescreen televisions too.

"The re-recording of the title music has been the icing on the cake and it really did bring a tear to my eye to hear it being performed live."

The BBC SSO recorded a new version of Still Game's theme music for its TV comeback.
