Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: Husband and wife presenting duo set to be dropped from This Morning to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary

After 14 years of presenting the daytime television programme This Morning on ITV, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are set to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

The Mirror reported that the pair are said to be ‘furious and upset’ over the decision to drop them from their weekly slot.

Instead, they will be brought back for six weeks during the summer holidays when main hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield take their time off.

Ms Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, the 47-year-old former X-Factor host, have acted as stand-in presenters in the past, most recently stepping in last month and impressing bosses with their work and chemistry.

Mr Holmes, 60, admitted in recent weeks that he was worried about being too ‘pale, stale and male’ for the award-winning programme which has in the past faced criticism over a lack of diversity among presenters.

ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall announced earlier this year a Diversity Acceleration Plan after the channel was criticised for having an entire day with only one non-white face.

Ms Langsford, also 60, is expected to remain in her spot on daytime show Loose Women, where she remains incredibly popular with viewers according to internal research.

The reshuffle is expected to start in the New Year with Ms Hammond and Mr O’Leary finalising their new contacts in the coming weeks.
