The second series of ITV’s Morecambe-based crime drama The Bay premiered on Wednesday, 20 January and it’s set to be just as popular as the first.
Two years after the dramatic finale of series one, some familiar faces will return to our screens, including Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong played by Scottish actress Morven Christie.
But who else is in the cast of season two? This is who is in the lineup, and where you might have seen them before.
Who is in the series 2 cast?
Morven Christie as DS Lisa Armstrong
Helensburgh-born Morven Christie will return to the lead role as Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong.
Viewers might also recognise her from other TV dramas, such as Grantchester, in which she played Amanda Hopkins.
In May 2019, Christie shared a promo picture of ‘The Bay’ on Instagram, captioned: “FINALLY! Been sitting in this info since before the finale... Season 2 is go! Thanks so much everyone who watched, and for all your lovely messages and comments. Buzzin’ to get back to it!
The second series was supposed to air in 2020, but was postponed.
Supporting Christie in her role as mother-of-two and hardworking DI, DS Daniel Ryan.
Daniel Ryan - DI Tony Manning
Ryan will return to the Bay as DS Armstrong’s boss, Detective Inspector Tony Manning.
A seasoned detective, Manning is a close supporter of Armstrong, and helps her with her professional and personal life.
Ryan’s most recent work includes roles in ITV’s Vera, as well as Mount Pleasant.
Taheen Modak as DC “Med” Kharim
Modak plays an up and coming DC with ambition and drive, eager to climb the ladder and impress his superiors.
The Old Vic theatre school graduate has also featured in Five Dates, Ruthless and Sky’s Two Weeks to Live.
Joe Absolom as Andy Warren
Absolom is a well established actor, but a new character in ‘The Bay’.
He plays the unreliable ex-husband of DC Armstrong and the father of her two children, Abbie and Rob.
He is best known for his roles in Doc Martin, The Bill, Dangerfield and Silent Witness.
Sunetra Sarker as Stella Bradwell
Another newbie to The Bay is Sarker, who plays the wife of Mark Bradwell and is a key character in the murder investigation which ensues.
Viewers will recognise her as Zoe Hanna in Casualty and Kaneez Paracha in Ackley Bridge.
Imogen King and Art Parkinson as Abbie and Rob Armstrong
The kids of DS Armstrong and Andy Warren, King and Parkinson also feature in series one.
While King plays a troubled and troublesome young teenage girl, Parkinson is a more understanding young man.
Viewers will recognise Parkinson from Game of Thrones, where he played the youngest child of Eddark Stark, Rickon.
King has also featured as Rayna in BBC 3’s second season of Clique and in Oscar-winning film, Darkest Hour.
There is also a whole host of new actors joining the cast throughout the series, including Corrie’s Amy James-Kelly, who debuts in episode one.
What is the storyline for season 2?
Series two will see DS Armstrong work to solve a murder case, as a grieving family search for answers.
She has been waiting for a case where she can prove her worth, as she battles to stay afloat at work and home.
Armstrong feels somewhat outshined by her colleague, DC Karim. That is, until she is assigned a murder case in Morecambe.
She must get to the bottom of the death by getting to know the loving and broken Marshbrook family, while dealing with her own internal conflict.
Where can I watch The Bay?
Series two of The Bay is now available to watch every Wednesday on ITV at 9pm.
Viewers do not need to wait for episodes to be released each week, as all of series one and two are available on the ITV Hub.
