Evening News branch offices

"I REMEMBER well in the 1950s the Evening News branch offices at Tollcross, Gorgie, Newington, Leith and Stockbridge," writes Ian McLaren. "Were there any more? I seem to also remember a life size statue, or model, of a horse on a roof just along from the Tollcross office, yet none of my friends can recall it. Maybe I am wrong?"

• JEAN Inglis replies: "I think the horse statue may be the one that was on top of the roof of the Small Animals clinic of the Royal Dick Vet School at Summerhall, Causewayside, at the end of Melville Drive."

Moira Thomson adds: "I was brought up in Tollcross and can't remember a model horse. My late father, Eddie Graham, worked in Rodgers, on George Street, as a saddler and in the window there was a model of a horse."
