This year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe is now more than half way through, with time running out to book some of August’s most talked about shows.
If you are looking to book a show during the remainder of the Fringe, our critics have been busy dashing between performances to give you the inside scoop on what’s worth your time.
These are 10 of the music and cabaret shows that have received a four or five star review from the Scotsman – and what our arts experts had to say about them.
"She frets that she’s out of shape and “doesn’t even look like the poster anymore”. But if she really is that anxious, she covers well. The moon is projected on the back curtain but O’Sullivan ain’t howling. This year she’s letting it hang out in different way - overtly emotional, blowing kisses, declaring her love for the audience." "A veteran not only of the Fringe but of cabaret and street performance circuits around the world, he is a gentleman juggler of rare talent and expertise, gifted not only in remarkable feats of balance and dexterity but also in the judicious manipulation of a crowd" Ben Walters on Mat Ricardo: The Extraordinary Gentleman (Gilded Balloon Teviot (Sportsman) (Venue 14) until 28 August). "It’s a bravura showcase for Young’s terrific delivery of the star’s iconic hits, each reworked distinctively with depth and humour." Ben Walters on An Evening Without Kate Bush (Assembly George Square Gardens (Piccolo) (Venue 3), until 29 August). Photo: Contributed
"It’s hard not to be in the moment watching Kaye’s show. This is maximalist, rock-star cabaret that demands your attention, and amply rewards it." Ben Walters on Reuben Kaye: The Butch is Back (Assembly Checkpoint (Venue 322), until 28 August). Photo: Contributed
