Her family later moved to Easter Broomhouse, Meikle Pinkerton and Thurston Estate, all in the Dunbar area.
She met her husband, Tom, when they were at school in Innerwick and he went to work at Temple Mains Farm.
The couple later got married and set up home at East Linton, where they had two sons, William and Robert. Robert died in a car accident aged 30.
The couple later went to live at the Halls at Dunbar, where Tom worked for 15 years, before he became manager at West Fenton Farm, near Gullane.
He held that position for 20 years before the couple retired to North Berwick in 1970, where she still lives.

During the first, she had a gathering for family and friends at home. Then, for the second day, a "Come Dance With Me" competition was held at the North Berwick Day Centre.
She said she "felt like a star".

"I had a lovely time and they even managed to sneak a party hat with candles and a banner on my head.
"I have enjoyed dancing since I was little, especially doing the tango, but I'll give anything a try. I still go dancing once a month in my village with a friend."
Of her husband, Tom, she said: "He was never a dancer. Try as I might, the man just couldn't dance. But he loved music, though, so it balanced out."
And despite being 97, she said she doesn't feel a day over 80.
She added: "I've had a good, generally happy life with no illnesses.
