Scottish actor James Cosmo will reprise his role as Mark Renton’s father in the sequel to Trainspotting, he has revealed.

The Game of Thrones star, 68, famously played the part in Danny Boyle’s 1996 film, which starred Ewan McGregor as heroin addict Renton.

Boyle has reassembled many of the original cast, including McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle for the sequel, which is currently being shot in Edinburgh.

Cosmo, whose character locked his addict son Mark in his room as he battled addiction, said he had no hesitation in agreeing to return.

He said: “Danny phoned me up and said ‘it’s only a couple of scenes but it’s going to look really strange if, when Renton comes back and knocks on the door, his dad is somebody else.

“So he said ‘will you come and do it?’ Well, you don’t really say no to Danny Boyle.
