CD review: Buggles - Adventures in Modern Recording

THIS second and final Buggles album, issued here on CD for the first time, was somewhat lost in the shuffle on its release in 1981 and now sounds like a missive from another era with its adventures in Fairlight synths and early sampling technology.

But it's an interesting sonic snapshot, echoing the duo's brief stint as members of veteran prog-rockers Yes (think Owner Of A Lonely Heart rather than Close To The Edge), while also foreshadowing Trevor Horn's work with Art of Noise and as one of pop's most sought-after producers – there's even a demo version of Videotheque, which he later recorded with Dollar, among some curious bonus tracks.
