Burns Night events in Scotland

THERE are countless ways to celebrate the birthday of Rabbie Burns, from traditional Burns Suppers (think haggis, neeps and tatties, a wee dram of whisky and poetry recitals) to stand-up comedy and live music. We’ve listed just a selection of Burns events. Find more at wow247.co.uk.

Burns Night Ceilidh at The Royal Scottish Academy

A night of live music, dancing and a traditional Scottish supper. Cullen Skink, followed by haggis, neeps and tatties served with a dram and then traditional cranachan for pudding. A range of wines, Scottish beers and drams will be available from the bar.

Burns Weekend

Stirling Castle

26 - 27 Jan, 11am-3pm

Adult tours give an insight into Rabbie’s visit to Stirling and how this impacted his work. There will also be Burns for Bairns. This will be aimed at primary-school aged children and will feature some of Burns most popular poetry. In addition there will be a consideration of the history of the Burns Supper in The Whisky and The Haggis.

Celebrating the work of Robbie Burns in true Scottish style, the Friends of ACT gather for a special evening as part of the 50th anniversary festivities. A colourful evening of poetry, haggis, neeps, tatties and timorous coo.

The Big Burns Night at Celtic Connections

The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

Hosting the party for Celtic Connections is the brilliant young traditional band Breabach, who’ll be joined by a stellar selection of fellow Scottish artists - plus the odd surprise international guest - performing new arrangements of Burns songs and melodies. As well as Breabach’s own Ewan Robertson and Megan Henderson, featured singers include the great Dougie MacLean OBE and Kathleen MacInnes - the latter highlighting the Gaelic melodies to which Burns often set his words - while Blazin’ Fiddles contribute more of the Bard’s favourite tunes, as well as string accompaniment to the songs.

Where better to mark Burns Night than the Bard’s birthplace? An evening of fine dining and entertainment hosted by comedian Karen Dunbar of Chewin’ the Fat fame.

Burns Tribute Night at Clachaig Inn

Come along and pay tribute to Scotland’s most famous bard in true Clachaig style. They will be doffing their cap to the bard, and having a bit of fun, whisky and haggis in the process. Music & toasts from White Rose. Dougie & Kevin help you raise a glass and a smile on a cold January night.

Come to the City Centre for a hilarious celebration of The Bard’s poetry and songs and the rounding up of the Haggis, which will lead you, the audience, from the streets of the Highland capital to the seats of Eden Court’s OneTouch Theatre for a finale performance to remember.
