Brighten up your life with a dab of neon nostalgia

If you remember acid house the first time around, you might consider yourself too old - or too sensible - to revisit the neon vibe.

But with bright colours a hit on the catwalk this season, why not have some fun and recapture your youth.

Eyes can be brought to life with shadow, liner or mascara. Try Bourjois Little Round Pot Eyeshadows in Turquoise Ensoleille or Orange Pepite (5.99, Boots) applied dry for a wash of colour, or wet for a bit more power. 17 Glitter Eye Shadow (3.49) is also good.

The Too Faced Liquif-eye Kit (23, Boots) features a palette of 12 shadows, and the brand's cult Liquif-Eye Liquid Liner.

Try Yves Saint Laurent Waterproof Mascara (21.50 each, department stores) for a hit of grown-up colour, or head for Barry M Glitter Lash Mascara (4.95 each, Boots and Superdrug) for cheeky sparkle.

Don't forget the difference a sensible tweeze can make. Tweezerman make some of the best tweezers (around 20, Boots), and as they come in brilliant pink, they're stylish too.

Try MAC Blushcreme (16.50 each, Harvey Nichols) in Lilicent or Posey for a flirty flush, or Barry M Blush, which comes in a range of shades, including Pink Orchid (4.50 each).

To make lips a talking point, Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick (4.49) in Funtime Fuschia is a great option. Clarins Colour Quench lip balm in Coral Pink, Poppy, Raspberry or Bubble Gum (14, department stores) is also elegantly bright. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Shine Sheer Lipstick SPF15 has some daring shades (21 each, department stores). Este Lauder Pure Color Lipgloss in Wild Lilac (15, department stores) is a fantastic vibrant shade.

For a subtle nod to the trend, a slick of polish is the way to go. Try Barry M Neon Nail Paint (2.95 each) or Collection 2000 Hotlooks Fast Dry Nail Polish (1.79). Rimmel 60 Seconds (3.49 each) are also a good option. For a bright aroma, Givenchy Very Irrsistible (from 33.50, Boots and department stores) is ideal. It is a heady mix of five roses. Kenzo Amour (from around 30) has notes of exotic cherry blossom, rice and white tea. To make baths vibrant, try Philosophy 3-in-1 Mimosa shower gel (13, John Lewis). Or for a real high, the Happy Pill bath ballistic from Lush (2.95) is bright yellow and orange. To give skin a boost, try Satsuma body butter (from 5) from The Body Shop.

And for up top, L'Oral Elvive Nutri-Gloss Shampoo (3.59, Boots and chemists) will add shine to hair.

This season, bright is right, so prepare to stand out from the crowd.
