Beauty: Let citrus products add a little zest to your routine

While it's proven that vitamin C can help improve energy levels, aid immunity, fight colds and possibly tackle hangovers, if you can't face a glass of orange juice first thing in the day, harness the reviving power of citrus with some orange, lemon and lime beauty products which will boost your spirits and leave you looking better than you might feel.

For a bracing shower-time experience try Original Source Pure Lime shower gel (1.99). L'Occitane Sunny Shower (12.50, Frederick Street) has citrus pulp concentrate to soften skin, which will also exfoliate and boost circulation. Origins Gloomaway grapefruit bath and body range is also worth investigating - especially the bubble bath and body mist (from 12, John Lewis). The Sunny Citrus soap from Lush (around 3) contains mandarin, tangerine and lime to really wake you up.

To clear your head, there's Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine shampoo, with orange flower extract, or its Fresh Balance shampoo with icy pineapple (from 2).

Jo Malone uses lots of natural citrus ingredients in her range, including the Orange and Geranium Night Cream (40, George Street) which is light yet effective.

Hot, tired faces will also benefit from a spray of Neal's Yard Remedies Orange Flower Water (9.50, Hanover Street). With neroli oil distilled from the blossom of the bitter orange tree it will instantly hydrate and refresh.

To moisturise all over, the new Sweet Lemon range from The Body Shop features a nourishing body butter (from 12.50).

Hands and feet can also get weary, but a spritz of cooling and refreshing Lemongrass Deodorising Foot Spray (5, The Body Shop) will put a zing back in your step. Cleanse Me refreshingly zesty orange and honey liquid hand wash from natural company Naked (3.99, Boots) will cleanse keyboard-stressed hands.

If you prefer to surround yourself with a fresh aroma that will last all day, then many perfume houses have created products which are citrus-based. Jo Malone Orange Blossom Cologne is a gentle example, or choose her Lime Basil and Mandarin signature scent for a Caribbean feel (from 32). Or try something new, with Boss Orange for Women (EDT from 26).

A touch of citrus works wonders on the complexion too. BeneFit Lemon Aid (16.50, Frasers, larger Boots, Debenhams and Harvey Nichols) is an eyelid primer, which can be worn under eye-shadow to make it last longer or on its own to even skin tone. MAC eye-shadow in orange (11, Harvey Nichols) is an in-your-face shade but if used as a liner, will add instant power.

At the end of a long day, relax in the gently-scented glow of a candle to help rid you of stress. Cowshed Grumpy Cow Uplifting room candle (28, John Lewis, Harvey Nichols and larger Boots) is a citrus blend and its 60-hour burn time justifies the cost. John Lewis Mandarin and Lime pillar candles also offer a stress-busting aroma (from 6).
