Beauty: How to create a new-look you this new year

Christmas is over, the biggest party of the year is now a distant memory, and all we have to look forward to are eye-watering credit card bills and lots of sessions in the gym to pound away the festive excess.

But that doesn't mean your beauty regime should suffer.

In fact, now is the time to create some beauty New Year's resolutions to create a new you in 2011.

First up, give yourself a break. Quit the make-up, and pamper your skin with facial masks and aromatic beauty products to detox the skin.

Deep cleanse skin with a quality cleanser, such as Eve Lom's Cleanser (48, Space NK), and follow with an exfoliation to slough off any remaining dead skin cells.

Try Neal's Yard's Orange Flower facial polish (14.50) or Soap and Glory's Scrub Your Nose In It (7.40).Congested skins will benefit from Soap and Glory's Deep Pore Detox Mask (10.21), while dry and grey skins morph into radiance courtesy of Origins Drink Up Overnight Mask (20). Drink up with Neal's Yard's Organic Beauty Oil (10.75).

This hard working oil contains nourishing omega fatty acids, essential nutrients and anti-oxidants that the skin needs to replenish itself.

Next, tend to those tootsies. The Capital's recent weather has seen our feet swathed in layers of socks encased in wellies or walking boots and, chances are, they are less than pampered. Rejuvenate your feet by refining the skin's texture and beautifying those nails.

Soak feet in essential oils in water to soften the skin, before exfoliating with a scrub, paying particular attention to the heels. Try Boots Gorgeous Feet Scrub (5.10) or Scholl Smooth Shower Scrub (5.10). Slough off stubborn hard skin with a pumice stone or foot file while the skin is still damp.

Treat dry and cracked heels with an intensively rich cream that contains shea butter or cocoa butter, and opt for specialist heel creams containing salicylic acid to soften stubborn calluses.

Then it's time for a cuticle tidy, file and polish. Snap up the Gorgeous Feet Pedicure Set (15.30, Boots) which contains all the feet must-haves.

Don't forget your locks. After the party season excesses, your hair may need a detox to eliminate the product build-up. Use a deep cleansing shampoo, work into dry hair, and then wet and repeat.

Follow with an intensive conditioning treatment. These products are worth the investment and you can't beat Shu Uemura's range at Charlie Miller or Kerastase. Or, let the hair experts do all the hard work for you. Charlie Miller's salon conditioning treatments start at 12.50 (blow dry 25) and are worth every penny (www.charliemiller.com). Hair is assessed by the professionals before a prescriptive treatment is applied. Add in a blow dry and you'll be back to your best in no time.

Finally, spritz away those January blues with a perfume, such as Marc Jacobs eponymous fragrance. Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs (39.50, The Perfume Shop) for women is a classic, luxurious, and sensuous scent that will heat up even the coldest of days.

With top notes of bergamot, heart notes of gardenia and base notes of musk, the result is an inimitable and luxurious fragrance.
