Atholl Estates photo contest winners announced

FOUR amateur photographers could see their work travel across the globe this year, after winning a photography competition run by Atholl Estates.

The quartet’s winning photographs will feature on postcards sold at the Estate’s Blair Castle gift shop.

Belgian Roger Locy was the contest’s overall winner, for his picture of a lone stag looking out over the Estate. Locy said: “I have taken many pictures on Atholl Estates over the years, but I chose the picture of a stag because of its simplicity and the evening colours.

“I like the way the stag is staring over the grass and the heather, encouraging those looking at the picture to wonder what is drawing the stag’s attention.”

17-year-old Julie Cumming won for her shot of her friends walking through the Estate.

The local schoolgirl said: “I took the photograph on a cold winter’s day when I was walking up the Estate’s driveway with my sister and best friend. It was a fun day out, and for me photography is all about creating memories.

“I’m delighted to have won and I’m looking forward to being able to use my win in the competition towards my photography portfolio.”

Other competition winners included Terry Cawthorne from Glasgow who won in the Landscape category and Donald McLaren from Inverness who won the History category.
