Album review: Death Cab For Cutie, Codes and Keys

****Atlantic, £12.99

Death Cab for Cutie have made good on a promise to push the guitars into the background, with piano dominating tunes such as the title track.

On Some Boys there is a hint of that Mercury Rev maturity which made Deserter's Songs a success, while minimalist electro rock pulses through Monday Morning and Doors Unlocked And Unopen, and the piano powered intrigue of the modestly majestic Unobstructed Views.

A quiet pop triumph.
