Album review: Chilly Gonzales: The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales

CHILLY GONZALES: THE UNSPEAKABLE CHILLY GONZALESgentle threat, £13.99****

I FEEL like a beast tonight/ I'm gonna bleed on the keys tonight," declares Chilly Gonzales on his track Party in My Mind, which would sound like all sorts of superstar self-aggrandisement if this album weren't the product of blood, sweat and tears of laughter. Like the product of some weird experiment designed to fuse Eminem and Liberace, the Canadian Gonzales (better known by just his surname as the producer of Peaches and Feist) purveys melodramatic piano ballads fused with the most devastatingly funny and close-to-the-bone rhymes. "You are the housewife / I'm the appliance," he spits on Different Kind of Prostitute, and this record's certainly designed to offer nothing but guilty pleasure.
