Century-long tensions between the royal houses of France and Austria-Hungary meant French music didn't tend to find much favour in Vienna.

Which makes the discovery of this collection of 17th-century music by French composer Charles Mouton in an Austrian abbey all the more surprising. Ars Antiqua Austria's sprightly recording reveals an overlooked composer who deserves a wider audience.
