Aberdeen street musician is an online hit

A ROMANIAN violinist who busks on the streets of Aberdeen has given Super Bowl stars Coldplay a run for their money with a stripped back version of their hit Paradise.

Remus Stana, Aberdeen’s resident electric fiddle player puts his own spin on Coldplay’s hit song Paradise in a video which has been viewed over 100,000 times.

Stana can regularly be found outside of the city’s Bon Accord Centre where he performs popular hits for the public.

His unique renditions have attracted hundreds of thousands of hits on his YouTube channel and has led to him becoming an internet sensation.

Stana has wowed shoppers with his virtuoso performances of songs including Pink’s Just Give Me a Reason and Justin Bieber’s Sorry.

His cover of Halo by Beyonce has received over 210,000 views while his rendition of James Arthur’s Impossible was posted by Arthur himself and retweeted nearly 200 times by fans.

The self-taught 24-year-old moved to Scotland four years ago to be with his brother who had previously settled in Aberdeen.

His popularity has reached as far as Romania where he appeared on national news. TV channel ProTV picked up the aspiring musicians story which led to fans sharing it across the country.

Stana told The Scotsman: “A friend of mine in Aberdeen told me I should put my music online and at first I said no, no-one would want to listen to that,” said Mr Stana, who works as a chef and has also performed his hip hop tunes at a number of Aberdeen nightclubs.”

“She kept talking about it and eventually I said OK. I didn’t expect this to happen and for it to become so popular.”

He added: “I had never performed in public before. I had the idea of playing on the streets of Aberdeen and one day decided to give it a try. Now most people in Aberdeen know me.”

Stana’s YouTube channel, which has nearly 17,000 subscribers is inundated with compliments from around the world.

One user called Lubochk said: “Beautiful performance!”, while Root Gamer commented: “You are the best...From Albania”.

Rochelle E Scorgie added: “Do you know over the years I’ve walked through Upperkirkgate and through these shopping centres, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you. Pity, this is my favourite”
