The former Rangers midfielder, 45, once turned down an offer to appear on the ITV show as he struggled to battle alcohol addiction.

But Gascoigne has now signalled his readiness to begin a television career after spending five weeks in a rehab centre in Arizona.

“They asked a while back but I wasn’t right and said no,” Gascoigne told The Sun.

“When sober, I’m up for anything, but when drinking, I don’t want to do anything.

“I won’t say what they offered as other celebrities would complain they weren’t given as much. But it was a lot.

“I’ve no problem eating insects and now I’d be there like a shot.”

Gascoigne, who amassed 57 caps as an England international, admitted that his next relapse may be his last as American doctors battled to revive him after his vital organs had failed.

“If I look after myself I’ll be OK. I might have another drink in me, but I don’t know if I’ve got another recovery.”

Gascoigne also told The Sun that he planned to start a television show with former rival Vinnie Jones.

Meanwhile, Gascoigne also told The Sun about the moment he chose to help fugitive killer Raoul Moat in 2010, who died in a stand-off with police seven days after shooting his ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart and murdering her boyfriend Chris Brown. Moat had also shot PC David Rathband, who died last year after committing suicide.

The former Ibrox idol had taken a taxi with a fishing rod, beer and chicken to Rothbury with the intention of helping Moat, convinced that he was a friend.

Gascoigne said: “I don’t know what the f*** I was doing. A f****** fishing rod and a chicken? What was that about?

Fishing has helped me when I’ve been in a bad place and I must have thought it’d be the same for him.

“I’d been drinking and saw the Moat story flash up on the news. Without thinking I decided I needed to go and help him.

“I’ve brought him a fishing rod, some chicken and a six-pack and got in the back of a taxi with it all.

“I thought, ‘Moaty won’t shoot me, I’m good friends with him. I thought I knew him, but I’d been drinking.”
