Glasgow man taken to hospital after bus fire on Renfield Street

A 54-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a bus fire on a street in Glasgow.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a bus on fire on Renfield Street, Glasgow, at around 12.15pm on Saturday.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing out of the vehicle as flames engulfed the double decker bus.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. They are no longer in attendance.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We attended at 12.15pm to reports of a bus fire on Renfield Street.

“All persons were evacuated from the bus and the fire was extinguished.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are in attendance at a vehicle fire on Renfield Street to assist with traffic management.

"A 54-year-old man has gone to hospital for treatment."

The man is not thought to be seriously injured.

A spokesperson for First Bus said "We are aware of an incident on Renfield Street, Glasgow where a fire has been reported. The emergency services are in attendance and we will be supporting them with their enquiries.

The safety and well-being of our passengers, drivers and the public are our number one priority and we will be conducting a full investigation into how the incident happened."
