Loveable, hairy and extremely photogenic, Highland cows are arguably Scotland's most iconic animal - and for good reason.
Built to withstand the harshest of weather conditions, Highland cows - or coos, as they're known in Scotland - are the oldest registered breed of cattle in the world. Recognisable for their long, double coats and tough horns, they are gentle giants despite their hardy nature.
Their adorable looks make have made them one of Scotland's biggest tourist attractions and while there are plenty of places around the country where you can stumble upon them, if you really want to meet one it's best not to leave it to chance.
Here are 15 places in Scotland where you can see Highland cows.
1. Romesdal Highlanders, Isle of Skye
If you’re in the Isle of Skye you can find Romesdal Highlands in the Trotternish area, where the small fold enjoy the island’s landscape and environment. 2. Rothiemurchus Highland Estate, Cairngorms National Park

3. Swanston Farm, Edinburgh
Just outside of Edinburgh, Swanston Farm’s fold of Highlands live across 300 acres of land above the farm. During the summer months you can find two, Thelma and Louise, a few minutes away from the farm’s restaurant but for the full experience pack appropriate footwear as you can wander the field to find more of them. 4. Jacksons at Jedburgh, Scottish Borders
You can get up close and personal with the Highland cows if you visit Jacksons at Jedburgh. Located in the Scottish Borders they offer self-guided and farmer led experiences where you can meet the animals up close.
