Rugby referee under pressure to resign

THE political strife in Scottish rugby threatens to rumble on despite the coming together of clubs in Sunday’s special general meeting at Murrayfield.

Ray Megson is understood to be under pressure to resign as the referees’ representative of the general committee after it emerged he was responsible for a statement reaching clubs last week which purported to explain the general committee’s reasons for removing David Mackay, the chairman, but which had failed to receive the backing of the committee.
