M876 crane fire: Firefighters called to vehicle fire on Scottish main road

Dramatic pictures show a large vehicle on fire at the side of a busy motorway.

Firefighters have been called to a crane that was seen ablaze on the side of a busy motorway.

The burning vehicle was spotted just before the slip road from Bonnybridge onto the M876, near Falkirk at about 7.30am on Monday, July 27.

A concerned passerby described the fire as “very big” and pictures show fire crews tackling the flames.

Traffic Scotland reported parts of the motorway have been closed as emergency services handle the incident.

In a post on twitter the traffic watch organisation said: “The M876 southbound at J1 Denny, lane 1 (of 2) is CLOSED to assist crane fire.

“Traffic will take a while to ease, delays are approximately 15 mins.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 7.19am on Monday, July 27 to a large HGV crane on fire on the M876 at Bankhead junction, near Falkirk.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire.

“Crews left after making the area safe.”
