Handed a rare start in a much-changed Gers line-up, the Swiss internationalist opened the scoring half an hour into the first half of the match in Poland.

Speaking at half-time Sutton said: “Itten’s goal will give Steven Gerrard food for thought. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities but he’s been impressive tonight and nearly set Ianis Hagi up as well.

"It’s a wonderful touch from Itten and Hagi is unfortunate, but it’s top-notch centre-forward play.

"He shows good awareness that Hagi is on the move; it’s a good run and Rangers are a bit unfortunate not to be two up.

"They had a bit of a slow start but took greater control the longer the half went on.

“They’re in a great position, they’ve been watertight at the back this season, it’s just about seeing it through.”
