Hibs job a hard call to make for John Doolan

NEW Hibernian first-team coach John Doolan is convinced he made the right decision to join the club after admitting he found it difficult to turn his back on Wigan.

The former Latics defender – a lifelong friend of Hibs 
manager Alan Stubbs – was enjoying his role as a member of the backroom staff at the DW 
Stadium under boss Uwe Rosler. The 45-year-old was unveiled as Stubb’s first major signing on Saturday before joining him in the dugout for the 4-0 win over Lowland League outfit Vale of Leithen. Just days into his new position, Doolan believes he made the correct call.

He said: “When Alan said there was a position for me here I had to seriously think about it because of where I was. I’d 
enjoyed a good few years at Wigan as a player, as a coach working in youth development and for the last six or seven months with the first team with Uwe Rosler. To be fair it was a big decision, I was at an 
English Championship club which, I am sure, will push on to the Premier League under Uwe.

“But I thought Hibs would be a challenge. It’s a massive club, one with loads of history.”
