Boxing: BBBC insist Groves will fight Kenny

The British Board of Boxing Control have announced that Kenny Anderson’s postponed British super-middleweight title clash with George Groves will go ahead at a future date.

Edinburgh boxer Anderson was set to face Groves at Wembley Arena tonight before the Londoner pulled out through injury.

Board boss Robert Smith totally dismissed any suggestion the injury was not genuine amid speculation over Groves vacating the title in order to fight Germany’s Robert Stieglitz for the his WBO crown.

Smith insisted: “As far as we are concerned, the Anderson-Groves championship bout is still on and I can confirm that we are in possesion of a sick line from a doctor stating that Groves is injured and unable to fight. The title bout between Anderson and Groves is still very much on and due to take place at a future date once Groves has recovered.’’
