Golf: Ex-Dispatch champ John well on the road to recovery

FORMER Dispatch Trophy winner John Archibald is on the road to recovery after suffering a heart attack that he didn't know about in the middle of a round.

The scare happened in the middle of a hectic spell for the Merchants man, who won up at the Braids with Westermont but now turns out in the event for Heriots. "I won both the Lindsay Stewart Quaichs, scratch and handicap, in the club championship qualifying," he said.

"I then played the first round of the championship and beat the club chef 2 and 1," he said.

"But I went to the doctors on the Wednesday and it turned out I had a heart attack while playing the previous night.

"I'm feeling great now and owe a huge personal thanks to all the staff at the Royal Infirmary."

Archibald hasn't wasted time regaining his form following the scare. "I've just had nine holes at Gifford and was round in level-par," he added.
