The annual event attracted 1,264 entries – up from the 1,047 at the Kelvin Hall last year – and organiser Margaret McInally put the increase down to twin factors – an Olympic boost and the attraction of a new venue.

“The Arena was amazing and it was great to see the number of athletes rise so sharply,” she said. “One of the most fascinating contests was the pole vault. In all, there were six personal bests.”

The four pole vault winners were under-16 – Kirsten Cronie (Woodmill High School)
with 2.7m and Alasdair Lowe (Cults Academy) with 3.2m and over-16 – Hannah Lawler (Coltness High School) with 3.4m and Calum Robertson (Portobello High School)
with 3.5m.

In the boys’ sprints, Michael Olsen (Edinburgh Academy) completed a sprint double by taking the 60m in 7.34secs and the 200m in 23.55secs.
