SIOBHAN SYNNOT reviews the rest of this weejkk’s cinema releases

Untouchable (15)

Star rating: * * * *

Defiantly frothy French comedy about the friendship between a rich tetraplegic (Francois Cluzet) and the Senegalese immigrant (Omar Sy) who answers his ad for a carer. Cluzet introduces him to art and four-hour operas. In return, Sy guns up his Maserati, fires up joints and counsels him on romantic needs. “Based on a true
story,” the friendship is touching, despite some rather broad racial stereotyping. See it now before Hollywood remakes it with Colin Firth and Chris Rock.

Tower Block (15)

Star rating: * * *

After witnessing a murder on their doorstep but refusing to help with the investigation, the residents of Tower Block 31 wake up one morning and get shot down by a sniper with an inexhaustible bullet supply. The survivors realise they may have to develop some community spirit if they have any chance of escape. A high-rise Poseidon Adventure, with some decent shocks. Stars Sheridan Smith, above.

Resident Evil:
Retribution (15)

Star rating: * *

The fifth episode in Paul WS Anderson’s presumably lucrative franchise of badass action girl (Milla Jovovich) vs zombies. Like warrior Alice, we are getting tired of being confronted with the latest machinations of a soulless corporation. But like the zombies, this putrid film series just will not die.

Diana Vreeland: The
Eye Has To Travel (PG)

Star rating: * * *

Like a showgirl’s costume, this documentary about fashion editor Vreeland touches on a lot of things without covering anything consequential. For sure, there’s tons of grande dame style here, but the lack of substance gets a little exasperating. Still, it’s an entertaining 90 minutes for fashionistas, or those with short attention spans.

The Campaign (15)

Star rating: * *

Will Ferrell is a smug, stupid Democrat trying to hold on to his congress seat in the face of a vote-losing sex scandal. But none of this is as funny, satirical or topical as the Mitt Romney farce currently playing on a TV near you.

House At The End Of
The Street (15)

Star rating: * *

Another haunted house movie. The main selling point is that it stars tween It girl Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games) but sadly it still feels like negative equity.

All on general release, except Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, which runs at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh, until Thursday
