Home truths

Brian Allan (Letters, 1 March) makes a valid point when he suggests the renationalisation of the energy business. There is nothing wrong with privatisation, if properly regulated – but with soaring bills and, coincidentally, profits for the energy companies, the government has obviously been less than vigilant.

Many vulnerable families are experiencing fuel poverty and are having to make the daily choice between eating or heating. In a country that is commendably quick to donate to nations in need, it might be a good time for our leaders to concentrate more on the home front.

The responsibility for the industries that are necessary for the everyday life of the people – and I include the railway network in this – if privatised, should not be left in the hands of barefaced profiteers.
