NEW figures on offshore wind projects, released by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), have revealed that the United Kingdom is the industry leader with the highest generation across Europe.
A total of 1,341MW of capacity has been installed, followed by Denmark, with 854MW.
EWEA's report states that the current installed offshore wind power capacity now supplies the equivalent of 2.9 million average EU households with electricity.
"The UK's offshore wind roll out is continuing at full speed," said Peter Madigan, the head of offshore renewables at RenewableUK.
Europe also currently boasts 19,000 MW of offshore wind capacity in UK waters, leased to developers, but still awaiting planning consent.
