What a waste

ANOTHER cavalcade of ermined gown wearers coincides with a report about the deaths of many people resulting from their struggles with the imposition upon them of austerity policies, removing their cash benefits lifelines etc (your report, 28 August).

Does this not reflect on a society that is somehow lacking in human balance, is in fact dysfunctional?

How can a government plead a need to save money, deplete the scanty budgets of the poor, and at the same time appoint to pampered positions in the House of Lords yet another procession of already over-paid people to peerages whereby they will received £300 each day they don their gowns and show face in that chamber of extreme privilege?

Have they simply got their arithmetic wrong? Have they more likely just lost whatever meagre morals they ever had?
